The Joe Louis Arena is a second home for many of the dedicated Detroit Hockey Red Wings fans. Commonly known as "The Joe" to Detroit hockey fans, the sports arena is located at 600 Civic Center Drive in Detroit.
The Joe Louis Arena was built in 1979, making it the fourth oldest arena in the NHL (National Hockey League). "The Joe" is named after the boxer (and former heavyweight champion) Joe Louis, who grew up in Detroit. The cool thing about the Joe Louis Arena is that it is only one of three remaining NHL arenas that does not have a corporate sponsorship name, capable of seating 20,058 crazed hockey fans.

The Detroit Red Wings played their first game at the Joe Louis Arena on December 27, 1979. The Red Wings have been very successful since played at The Joe. They have won four Stanley Cup Championships, two of which were won at home in The Joe specifically.
